Description:

Preventing weight stigma is essential to effective treatment efforts for patients with obesity. This program will discuss how bias interferes with access to care and effective outcomes, as well as how to recognize and prevent bias within one’s practice.

Target Audience

MDs, NPs, PAs, PhDs, RNs, RDs and healthcare professionals who care for patients with obesity.

Objectives

  1. Identify the causes and impact of weight stigma in terms of patient care, outcomes, and access to care.
  2. Discuss how to motivate providers to engage in advocacy for equity in health, education, research, etc.
  3. Explore strategies to mitigate health bias and promote inclusive communication.
