Stanley Rogers, MD FACS FRCS

Dr. Stanley James Rogers, Jr., is Professor and Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Interim Chief of General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, and Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program. He is the His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX Distinguished Professor of Global Surgery, and the Ruth M. Dunn Endowed Chair in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Rogers is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Thailand. He is a member of the clinical team at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is an attending surgeon and Director of Videoendoscopic Surgery at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. 

Dr. Rogers received his baccalaureate degree in Zoology and Physiology from the University of Wyoming and his M.D. from the University of Utah School of Medicine. His surgical residency, and fellowships in laparoscopic surgery, surgical sonography and surgical endoscopy were completed at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Rogers joined the UCSF Department of Surgery Faculty in 1999. His clinical and research interests are in minimally invasive (or laparoscopic) and robotic surgery; foregut surgery for GERD (acid reflux disease), hiatal hernias, esophageal motility disorders and esophageal cancer; surgery for obesity; surgical endoscopy including treatment of Barrett’s; and the laparoscopic treatment of liver tumors using radio frequency ablation. Dr. Rogers is actively involved in the UCSF Surgical Innovation group, and is developing several patents for novel medical devices.
