Michel Murr, MD FACS

Dr. Murr specializes in bariatric surgery and for over 20 years, he has been dedicated to helping individuals regain their health by providing cutting edge treatment in a caring and nurturing environment. Through a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Murr and his team focus on the whole health of each person and apply a customized approach for improved well-being. Dr Murr is the Physician Leader of the Bariatric and Metabolic Institute of AdventHealth West Flrodia Division that includes 8 accredited bariatric programs and 12 baritric srugeons. His motto ‘the patient comes first’ is evident in his daily practice and reflects values he developed during his years at the Mayo Clinic and current prctice at AdventHealth. Dr Murr was voted by his peers as the Top Bariatric Surgeon in Tampa for the last ten consecutive years. Dr. Murr is one of the pioneers of bariatric surgery and has served in leadership roles in many national scientific organizations including the ASMBS Executive Council. He lectures worldwide and has coauthored more than 150 scientific publications and trained 46 surgical fellows. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of SOARD. Dr Murr is a Founding Member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Florida State Chapter, and served in multiple committees of the ASMBS and its Executive Council. He and hs research group have recieved two research grants from the ASMBS. he established a fellowship training program and has trained more than 42 fellows who in turn became thought leaders in their communities. Dr Murr is a Professor of Surgery at UCF. Dr. Murr has been influential in the medical community. An advocate for people with obesity, Dr. Murr has been instrumental in working with Florida Legislature, encouraging insurance companies and employers to support comprehensive obesity management. Dr Murr is embedded in the community and has lived in Tampa for the last 25 years.
