Mahir Ozmen, MD MS FACS FRCS FEBS

Professor Ozmen graduated from Ankara University Medical School in 1989. He became a general surgery specialist in 1995 and received MS (Master of Surgery) degree -which is PhD equivalent- in the field of gastrointestinal surgery in 1997 at University of Southampton-UK. He became an associate Professor of Surgery in 1999 and a Professor of Surgery in 2010 at Hacettepe University Medical School. He also received his sub-speciality degree on Surgical Oncology on 2012. He acted as the head of the Department of Emergency Medicine between 2011-2013. He worked as full-time professor of surgery at Department of Surgery, Medical School, Hacettepe University, Ankara till 2016.He worked at Bahcesehir University(BAU) Medical School Istanbul till 2018 and 2018-2023 He was working as full-time Professor of Surgery at Department of General Surgery, Medical School, Istinye University, Istanbul-Turkey. He was acting as Medical Director of Liv Hospital Ankara from 1016 to August 2022. He worked in Southampton University, Southampton-UK and AZ Maria Middelares Hospital in Ghent-Belgium between the years of 1993-1996, in the fields of general, gastro-intestinal and advanced laparoscopic surgery; He also worked in Norfolk and Norwich Hospital-UK and Southampton University-UK again at various times in 1996-1998 in the fields of gastrointestinal surgery as consultant surgeon; in 2000-2001 he worked in Cambridge University, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and Kings College Hospital, London-UK in the field of multi-organ transplantation (kidney and liver). He received his sub-specialty diploma on Surgical Oncology in 2012. He was awarded with FACS degree from American College of Surgeons, USA and FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow, UK. He is also a fellow of International College of Surgery with the degree of FICS; and fellow of American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery(FASMBS). He is now the faculty member of Medical school of Bahcesehir University, Istanbul and Sapienza Umiversity of Rome-Italy. He is currently the President of Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia, Executive Board member of Turkish Surgical Socity. He was the founder and the President of Turkish Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (TSMBS) in 2014-2022; Vice-President of Turkish Surgical Society(TSS), in 2018-2022. He was General Secretary of Accreditation Council of Turkish Surgical Society and Committee Member of the Education Training Committee of European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).He was also vice-president for Turkish Trauma and Emergency Surgery. He has over 200 international scientific publications indexed in SCI, SCIE or pubmed; over 50 book chapters and 15 books in the field of surgery. For a period of time he acted as editor-in-chief of Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences of TUBITAK; Associate editor of Turkish Journal of Geriatrics; Member of publication board of popular science journal of TUBITAK -Bilim ve Teknik Dergisi-. He was also a board member of another popular science journal called NTV-Bilim.Currently, he is the editor of Turkish Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (which is indexed in SCIE and pubmed); He is also on the editorial board of internetional well-known journals SLEPT, ALES, Asian J Endoscopic Surgery. He performs just over 300 major bariatric-metabolic surgeries in a year. His case-mix disclosure include LAGB, LSG, LGBP(roux-n-Y), LOAGB, SADI, DJBP, SADS and Revisional procedures.He is an experienced Robotic Surgeon uses daVinci robots, Si, X, Xi for Bariatric-metabolic surgery and surgical Oncology.
