Dr. Felts was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated with top honors from Texas A&M College of Medicine, and completed his residency training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas, serving as Chief Surgical Resident. Dr. Felts began a very successful general surgery practice in 1988 in Jacksonville, Texas and continued that practice for 18 years. He gained exceptional experience in laparoscopic procedures, including advanced laparoscopic hernia, gastric and colon surgeries. He has performed over 5000 laparoscopic procedures. Early in his career Dr. Felts had an interest in the surgical treatment of obesity. In 2006, he transitioned his surgical practice exclusively to Bariatric Surgery. It is a move he has totally embraced and thoroughly enjoys. He became a successful Bariatric Surgeon in the Dallas area specializing in Lap-Band and Gastric Sleeve procedures with more than 2,500 Bariatric Laparoscopic Surgeries to his credit. Texas has been home for Dr. Felts but he has always had a great love for the people and spirit of New Mexico where he owns a cabin in Angel Fire. He has had a New Mexico medical license since 2006 and was thrilled at the opportunity to make New Mexico his home. In October of 2012, he was asked to develop a Bariatric Surgery Program at Mountainview Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. This was an exciting process and has seen remarkable successes in a very short period of time, including recognition by the ASMBS as a Comprehensive Bariatric Center in 2015. In 2016, he and his wife, Karla, took a brief elective leave of absence for personal travel. They have been asked by Memorial Medical Center of Las Cruces to build a Bariatric Surgery Program as well as a Medical Wellness Program. Dr. Felts and Karla are honored and excited at this opportunity with this community and organization.
