American Medical Association (AMA) Dr. Fan is a native New Yorker, born in Queens and raised in Long Island. He completed residency in General Surgery at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens. He then further pursued advanced surgical training in Minimally Invasive, Robotic, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. In fellowship, he gained extensive laparoscopic and robotic training in bariatric surgery, treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and intestines, as well as repair and reconstruction of abdominal wall and inguinal hernias. Dr. Fan performs various Robotic and Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery procedures including Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy. He specializes in minimally invasive approach to various types of hernia repairs. In addition to Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Fan also performs minimally invasive surgery procedures with a major focus on gastrointestinal surgery including gallbladder disease, acid reflux disease, hiatal hernias, treatment of achalasia, intestinal resection for cancer, spleen, adrenal, liver, and pancreas diseases. In addition to be the Chief Bariatric Surgery, Director of Robotic Surgery at BronxCare Health System - Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, Bronx, N.Y., Dr. Fan has remained committed to educating young surgeons, currently serving as faculty attending for the General Surgery residency at BronxCare. He was awarded the Attending Teacher of the Year award in 2022-2023. During his surgery residency training, he was awarded 2020 - Resident Teacher of the Year. He has presented research findings on a national level and authored multiple peer reviewed publications.
