Dr. Safadi is currently Chair of Surgical Services at Aman hospital in Doha Qatar. Prior to that he held the position of professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Lebanese American University (LAU) Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury school of medicine. Dr. Safadi has been performing bariatric surgery since 2001 when he was an assistant professor of surgery at Stanford University and its affiliated VA PAHCS. Dr. Safadi then joined the American University of Beirut in 2005 where he founded its Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical (MBS) unit. He then moved to head the department of surgery at LAU from october 2018 until April 2021. Dr. Safadi is a leading figure in MBS in Lebanon and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He is a founding member of the IFSO MENA chapter and is chair of its research and scientific committee. He was the president of IFSO Lebanon Chapter 2019-2020 and is amember of the scientic and research committee of IFSO. He is also a member of the International Committee of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Safadi has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers on MBS and has conducted and organized numerous workshops, lecture series and conferences on MBS in Lebanon and the MENA region.
