ASMBS General CME Information

I. Credits Offered

ASMBS provides AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, encompassing Accredited CME and Self-Assessment Credits for physicians. The organization holds accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Education (ACCME) and upholds its Standards for Independence and Integrity.

II. Claiming Credits

To receive credits, learners are required to claim credits for activities attended within a 3-year period. After the lapse of 3 years, credit claims will not be accepted. Completion of evaluations for all activities is mandatory to be eligible for CME credit.

III. Transferring Claimed Credits to The American Board of Surgery

As a CME Provider, ASMBS is responsible for facilitating the transfer of claimed credits to the American Board of Surgery (ABS). This policy has been effective since July 1st, 2023. For all CME activities offered from this date onward, learners have the option to opt-in for ABS transfer during the evaluation process.

To initiate the transfer, learners must provide their ABS ID, day and month of birth, and grant ASMBS consent to share their information with ACCME and ABS during the evaluation process. Following the opt-in for transfer, it may take up to 10 business days for the credits to appear in the ABS portal. ASMBS can expedite these processes upon request for recertification deadlines.

Should a learner necessitate the transfer of credits claimed for activities prior to July 1st, 2023, we can facilitate this process upon request. In accordance with ABS rules, ASMBS is authorized to transfer credits only from the preceding 3 years.
