The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted in the unified accreditation program between the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as outlined in the Resource Manual Optimal Care for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2014 standards document.
For Initial Applications:
New centers (not currently participating in the MBSAQIP) seeking status as a MBSAQIP Accredited Center (Low Acuity, Band, Comprehensive, and Comprehensive with Adolescent Qualifications) can now apply using the MBSAQIP Application Portal found on the MBSAQIP website, which is located at www.mbsaqip.org. It is required that all new centers submit a pre-application before gaining access to the application. Click “Register a New Center” within the MBSAQIP Application Portal to access the pre-application. Please note that your center must meet all standards for the designation level sought prior to submitting a pre-application. If you have not already done so, please visit the Standards page of the MBSAQIP website at www.mbsaqip.org for a complete review of the Resource Manual Optimal Care for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2014 standards document.
For Currently Accredited or Re-Accrediting Centers:
For those centers currently accredited or otherwise affiliated with the MBSAQIP program, you should have already received notification of your center’s re-accreditation status as well as next steps in the accreditation or re-accreditation process. If your center is currently accredited and you have not received notification, please E-mail MBSAQIP at mbsaqip@facs.org such that you can be furnished with a copy of your center’s letter.
For Data Collection Centers:
The application for participation as a MBSAQIP Data Collection Center is not currently available. We are working to make this an option available to new centers as soon as possible. Please note that participation as a MBSAQIP Data Collection Center is not a prerequisite for designation as an Accredited Center. Please stay tuned over the next few weeks regarding the availability of the application for the Data Collection Centers. We appreciate your cooperation and support during this final and exciting phase of the transition to the joint MBSAQIP. The MBSAQIP and its surgeon oversight committee, the Committee for Bariatric and Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) are confident that the accreditation process as outlined in the Resource Manual Optimal Care for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2014 standards document will be assistive in your center’s efforts toward offering quality, patient-centered, metabolic and bariatric surgical care to those patients in your community who suffer from metabolic and obesity-related disease. For further information regarding the MBSAQIP program, please visit the MBSAQIP website at www.mbsaqip.org or E-mail: mbsaqip@facs.org.
