Charge:
In alignment with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) mission to elevate global health and quality of life by significantly reducing the impact of obesity and its related illnesses, the Emerging Technology and Procedures Committee is tasked with advising the Executive Council, other committees, and the general membership on new technologies and procedures in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery. This includes evaluating the impact of emerging technologies and procedures on patient care and educating members on their incorporation into practice.
Description:
The Emerging Technology and Procedures Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of ASMBS by evaluating and disseminating information on emerging technologies and procedures. By engaging stakeholders and providing educational resources, the committee aims to improve patient care, advance scientific understanding, and establish ASMBS as a recognized authority in the field.
Objective:
Engage all stakeholders in the field of emerging bariatric and metabolic procedures through educational sessions and web-based tools.
Goals:
- Facilitate early access to new technologies while ensuring their safety, efficacy, and compliance with regulatory approvals.
- Streamline and standardize emerging technology and procedural clinical research processes.
- Committee involvement in Pathway for Endorsement of New Devices and Procedures Committee process.
- Establish ASMBS as one of the main societies for reference and authority for new surgical and endoscopic procedures to treat metabolic disease.
